I’ve always considered my laundry room to be something of a disgrace. Not that laundry rooms need to be fancy or luxurious, but mine has always felt dingy and nasty. It didn’t matter how much I scrubbed the floor, it always looked filthy, so I rarely mopped (gross, I know). God forbid a piece of clean laundry spilled out onto the floor! Plus the unfinished water-stained walls didn’t help the nasty factor.

A while ago, I convinced Mike to hang one of the old cabinets we saved from the kitchen so I could have some storage, since the room had absolutely none to speak of. We’ve also been holding on to the roll of Congoleum vinyl flooring from our old kitchen. We installed it new shortly after we moved into our house. Since the remodel it’s been languishing in the garage, getting stepped on and otherwise destroyed, until now. This weekend I took the bull by the horns and scheduled time to repurpose the old floor. I think Mike was reluctant to do it, but he’s now a true-believer. It makes a big difference in there. Also, I decided to prime-paint the bare walls, just to freshen it up a bit. In addition, I cut a leftover piece of pegboard to cover up the raw insulation. See the pics.

The next step for us is to cover the opposite wall completely with wainscoting panels to hide the pipes from the bathroom on the other side. If only I could convince someone to hang a drop ceiling…
