Freelance has been slow this month, so I’m up to my armpits in projects. It’s a virtual craftacular! Not really; I just wanted an excuse to say that word…. CRAFTACULAR! I do have a bunch of stuff in the works though: macrame belt, a purse, various clothing upcycling. And of course, there’s Halloween to think about. After all it’s only 3 months away. But there’s one project I figured it was high time I started/finished. The pattern for a knit blouse that I’ve had in my possession for over a year. I bought the thing before I even had a serger and soon realized I couldn’t really make it until I had one—or at least not make it well.

I’ve had my serger for a while and yes, I’ve been totally procraftinating! First, I bought some white knit fabric, and then I realized that it was too narrow, so I sat on it for a little while longer because I really wanted a patterned fabric anyway, and JoAnn’s selection just wasn’t doing it for me. I did end up making a fetching vest from the white fabric. It’s based on a vest I saw on Already Pretty, and I thought, “I could totally make that!”

Then I found some knit fabric at WalMart. I dislike WalMart as a general rule, but they had some nice fabrics at clearance prices. Yesterday I finally got around to making the shirt pattern. I must say, not only did I use my serger, but I also learned a few new tricks with my regular machine—like the fancy decorative zig-zag on the hems. It pays to read the manual huh!? Let me know what you think.
