The tearout continues, and as usual there were some unexpected glitches. 1. The floor under the toilet needs a total replacement because of existing water damage. The floor boards were all rotted out. 2. There’s now a hole in the dining room wall from a piece of tub shrapnel. 3. The wrong part was ordered for the tub drain, and it won’t be here till Friday — which means we’ll probably be without a shower all weekend. Thanks to all our friends/neighbors who have offered us their showers for us to bathe!
Enjoy some of the pictures of Day 2:

The vanity and part of the floor are out. Note the stupid hole underneath the light. Apparently, that’s the previous homeowners’ clever way of finding a stud: bang it with a hammer!

The rest of the floor coming out.

Removing the subfloor revealed the extent of the rot damage around the toilet.

Breaking up the tub. Holy crap, what a racket! Poor George was scared out of his mind: he didn’t come out from behind the couch until the contractor left.

Rotted wall boards were removed.

More bottles in the wall! Seriously!? I thought the “Hires Root Beer” was pronounced, “hi-res” until I was reminded that they probably didn’t have that term in the 60s… Ooops! ;-)

Easter Domo is very upset about the hole in the dining room wall!
